In a remarkable story of survival, a 94-year-old has been found alive in Nepal – the only survivor from a care home that was swept away by flash floods that have claimed more than 500 lives. In what may become one of the defining images of the tragedy, the woman is seen being carried in the bucket of a digger, then in the arms of a rescuer. The elderly woman is reportedly the only surviving resident or staff member from a government-run care home in Rasuwa. Rescuers used the digger to plunk her from debris before taking her to the Kathmandu Trauma Centre. Because of the shock of her ordeal, and her dementia, the woman was unable to speak, even to provide her name. Exactly how she survived, may never be known. On Thursday afternoon a female relative identified her as Gunakeshari Bohara, 94. Dr Imran, a medical officer at the trauma centre, has been quoted as saying the woman’s survival is “a miracle” and “remarkable” in the wake of so many deaths. #5news #nepal #tiktoknepal
