I hear you. A lot of you said Brightline matters for commuters and asked what the solution is. So here it is. First, to be clear. I am not the mayor. I am not in office. I cannot sign this deal or stop it. My job is to raise awareness, give you my honest take, and push the people who can act. And before we sign anything new, one fair question. What happened to the Metrorail expansion we voted for and paid for back in 2002, and never got? I am not against the train. Brightline proved Miami will ride transit when it is done right and priced right. My concern is the deal as it has been reported. So here is my plan, point by point. 1. Wait for the court fight over who controls the tracks before we commit hundreds of millions. 2. Renegotiate to protect taxpayers. Cap the fees and tie every payment to performance. 3. Remove any clause that lets the operator suspend service if it decides our funding is short. 4. Make sure the public owns the stations we pay to build. 5. Put it to a public vote, with the full agreement made public, not a leaked draft. Complaining is easy. Getting the deal right is the work.
