Remember The Last Ninja on the Commodore 64? If you had a C64 back in the day, there’s a good chance this game is burned into your memory. Released in 1987, The Last Ninja put you in the sandals of Armakuni, the last surviving ninja of his clan. And this wasn’t your typical run-and-jump game. You’d wander through these incredible isometric landscapes… forests, gardens, caves, ancient temples… …looking for objects, solving puzzles, and trying to work out exactly what the game wanted you to do. And then, out of nowhere… NINJA FIGHT! You’d find weapons like swords, nunchaku and throwing stars, and suddenly you felt like the deadliest ninja in the world. Well… Until some random enemy absolutely destroyed you. But honestly, what really made The Last Ninja special was the atmosphere. Those graphics. That eerie, atmospheric music. The sound effects coming through the C64’s little speaker. And that feeling of sitting there, joystick in hand, completely absorbed in this strange and mysterious world. For an eight-bit computer, it felt absolutely massive. And that soundtrack? Still incredible today. The Last Ninja went on to become a trilogy, but for many of us, that first game is where the memories live. You didn’t just play The Last Ninja… You explored it. You got lost in it. You got frustrated with it. And you probably had absolutely no idea what you were supposed to do half the time. But somehow… you loved every minute of it. The Commodore 64 really was something special. #thelastninja #c64 #commodore64game #commodore64 #retrogaming
