And in the spiritual world, ghosts travel through mirrors. Only ghosts can do that. I just feel like Coraline and her family passed away in that car accident hence why her dad’s neck was broken and Coraline’s hair turned blue. I think they were all in purgatory where they weren’t aware they were gone and all had lessons to learn. For example I think Coraline’s lesson was to be grateful, Wybie’s was to listen more and talk less. I think the beldam feeds on Children who aren’t aware that they are gone, tries to trick them out of learning their lesson, and traps their spirits there with her.

theres also this theory that coraline hallucinated all of it, her parents died in the car crash (her mom told her in a deleted scene "that was before the accident happened" and coraline responded "it wasnt my fault you hit that truck")

Coraline actually does have a lot of answers. The Other World was real, she wasn’t hallucinating, and Neil Gaiman confirmed she really escaped. The Beldam is a supernatural creature that lures kids in by creating their “perfect” life, then tries to take control of them. The ghost kids were previous victims. The Cat and the Beldam’s origins were intentionally left unexplained, so not every part of the lore has a canon answer.

Guysss I have a theory, in the beginning the doll comes from the sky towards the beldam, what if wybies grandma threw the doll(initially it being her sister’s replica doll) into the well as wybie told you could see stars in a midnight sky deep down the well. So the grandma might have been the initial root to feed the beldam as she might have escaped beldam on conditions to lure children towards the beldam. Then the doll gets sent back the the real world via the sky and maybe through the well and then wybie says he found it in his grandmas trunk. So there might be three portals(one the door,one the well and another one wybie’s grandmas trunk). And also coralines parents might have already been killed or taken by the beldam at the time when coraline was downstairs enjoying the show so the two ladies, taking into account the other mother and father weren’t in the house that time. And they might have travelled through the door and taken the actual parents(as the real parents car was there in the real world when Coraline escaped the first time, and the groceries the actual mother went to buy for were also there but rotten). So, the beldam might have trapped Coraline inside for a good amount of time and taken the real parents. Cause downstairs time is not certain (cause in the real world, the dogs dying but the ladies can’t tell when it will happen cause time is uncertain).
