Catholic school Safe Environment Training (SET) is a mandatory program for all staff, clergy, and volunteers that teaches how to spot, stop, and report child abuse. I have to reapply every year to volunteer at my children’s school and this includes a background check which I pay for. I repeat, every year I get a background check

Agree on all counts. I'm a contract SLP for a public school system. What an absolute disaster this has created. What do we do? How do we change it? Sincerely asking.

What they don’t tell you to step up for students if you don’t get enough to really go to a private school. My son was a step up student because of his autism and it did nothing for us. All we had to do was jump through more hoops and payout money to find the answers. We had to pay this person or that person to help us navigate the step up program, but it didn’t do shit. So essentially what they do is make money off of you.

Agreed. The system is even worse when you consider the homeschool aspect. A state filled with undereducated adults “teaching” their kids with scholarship funded Disney passes. I recently watched a homeschool mom explain how she uses American Girl Doll books to “teach history” and a prospective homeschool mom get excited and proclaim “education is literally everywhere!” This interaction lives rent free in my head.
