Imo the reason those echo chambers exist is that what one might call “immature validation seeking” could also just as easily be understood as having normal attachment needs. It’s entirely possible to seek those needs from someone who lacks the capacity to meet them (because they’re avoidant or narcissistic for example) but that doesn’t make the need itself excessive, unhealthy or immature. Other people are perfectly willing and able to provide validation, even if someone with an avoidant attachment strategy for example would experience the same amount of validation-seeking as “too much.” Just because someone grew up learning that reassurance, affirmation, or emotional responsiveness wasn’t readily available to them doesn’t mean everyone learned the same thing. People who grew up in relative safety learned that seeking validation is available, reciprocal, and a completely ordinary part of social life and that people are allowed to help each other feel secure and good about themselves. Not seeking validation may have been adaptive in one environment (one where doing so might have gotten you hurt or rejected) but that doesn’t make seeking it wrong, unhealthy or immature. Maybe it’s just something that wasn’t available in the past but now is something that adds to your life.

Yep! And a big sign of this is the way they’ll constantly state “I’m not a bad person” or want you to reassure they’re a good person so they don’t feel negatively towards themselves.

Wow, needed to hear this! Literally working on this now, this week was my first time not double texting the person I was seeing & letting it go, he said he needed time to reply an important text, I told him no problem, now it’s been a week but I am not chasing for the 1st time…I have been allowing him to do what he wants claiming I’m trying to give grace but I’m being treated like crap…
