@worldjewishcongress: On August 28, 1963, 250,000 people marched in Washington DC demanding civil rights for African Americans in the US. Among the organizers and speakers of the event was Rabbi Joachim Prinz, who had escaped Nazi Germany and became a prominent Jewish leader in America. A supporter of the civil right movement, he spoke about Jewish solidarity with the oppressed. "When I was the rabbi of the Jewish community in Berlin under the Hitler regime, I learned many things. The most important thing that I learned under those tragic circumstances was that bigotry and hatred are not the most urgent problem. The most urgent, the most disgraceful, the most shameful and the most tragic problem is silence," Rabbi Prinz famously said.
