@getthereonedaypod: video would’ve been too long if i explained it all thoroughly so lmk if you have questions #uni #degree #engineering #student #tierlist
aerospace will always be one of of the most resilient. Mechanical and aerospace can go hand in hand

Civil Engineering just gets disrespected for no reason, the umbrellas such as Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical and Industrial should be S tier

General Engineering is an absolute waste of time. Generalising the education means graduates will have a very superficial knowledge of anything engineering related. Saying it's S tier is laughable

I’ve been an Electrical Engineer for 14 years. I work for the UKs largest Aerospace, Nuclear and Defence company. And I can tell you now, this is video is not based off experience. The best engineers I know are Engineers who have come from a practical background. A good example is an Apprenticeship time served in maintenance (electrical, automation, controls and mechanical). Obviously this isn’t one size suits all. But a practical start is one of the strongest edges you can have in the industry. “general engineering” is also pointless. If you do a good apprenticeship or when you get a job, you’re exposed to most things anyway naturally. Spend your education specialising, then naturally grow into what you want to be. If you’re good at Engineering you create your own path.

you put two of the best employed engineering disciplines in B materials has a 93-97% relevant employment or further study and it's 92% in maritime they are small courses which results in the lack of public presence but materials creates 50% of innovations

As a Mech Eng graduate 9 years ago, the courses tend to be too much of a "general engineering" degree and doesn't give you enough specialism. It's fantastic to do at the time and gives you an appreciation of engineering as a whole but you're stumped trying to find a job as graduates from each specialist engineering degree have the deeper understanding and/or experience. I was fortunate to land in my role now but that was through luck and taking a job in a field of engineering I never even thought about during my time at university!

Doing a more specialised engineering degree does not mean you are restricted to jobs only in that market. Most graduate schemes don’t expect you to know anything and will train you up on the job. Having any engineering degree shows you are disciplined, committed, have social skills and are willing to work hard at whatever you are interested in which employers care far more about than technical skills at a graduate level.

What is systems engineering and why do I feel like it’s slept on? I have seen a lot of roles available for it and apprenticeships.

With civil engineering it depends on the company because at Laing o Rourke for example does almost all the government buildings and a starting salary is 45k and goes up to 80-100k if You’re a project engineer
