THE CARNAL MAN, THE QUICKENED SOUL, AND THE KINGDOM OF LIGHT. . 1. INTRODUCTION . THE MAN BORN OF THE FLESH The beginning of man's earthly existence is through the flesh. The body is formed from the earth, and man's natural existence is lived within the earthly creation. Genesis 2:7 KJV “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Therefore, there is a distinction between the earthly body, the living soul, and the spirit of life given by God. The natural man experiences the world through the earthly vessel into which his soul has been placed. Scripture calls this natural condition carnal when the mind and desires are governed according to the flesh rather than according to the Spirit. Romans 8:5–6 KJV “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.” “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”. . 2. THE DARKNESS OF THE WORLD AND THE BLINDNESS OF MAN The world contains darkness, wickedness, deception, and the desires of man's fallen heart. Scripture does not conceal this condition. John 3:19 KJV “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” The natural man can therefore live within darkness without understanding its spiritual nature. He may experience its consequences physically, emotionally, morally, and spiritually while remaining unable to perceive the spiritual reality behind what he is experiencing. 1 Corinthians 2:14 KJV “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” This corresponds to your statement that the man can experience darkness before he understands darkness. . 3. THE REVELATION OF THE HEART The fullness of man's wicked desires eventually becomes manifest through his works.
