I’m an extra fine girlie and I learned a few things - basically EF/UEF nibs don’t showcase ink well… I learned that I need a pen I enjoy holding, looking at and then I can get the nib where I want it. I like the Vanishing Point EF and the Platinum 3667 UEF (about the same line width). I’d pass on the Esterbrook niblet unless you love how it feels in your hand. But- a jowo6 pen is one you can swap out nibs- this matters if you decide you want to get into inks and want to showcase shimmer, shading etc. My recommendation is if you buy anything not Japanese to go to PenRealm and get custom grinds on generic nibs (eg a needlepoint on a TWSBI eco) then you can switch out the nib if you change your taste!

I've only been in this hobby a few months. I love Esterbrook Esties (i know im getting side eye right now) they have a nice weight for my hand. I also love my Platinum Century 3776 .

If you’re a newbie…spending more doesn’t necessarily mean better. I have all the ones you mentioned, and I honestly love my Twsbi’s best! I have several with different nibs, I gravitate to them most often!!💕

The Sailor Pro Gear has changed my life. I started with a Pro Gear Slim and while it was delicious to use, the barrel cramped my hand. I got the PG and my goodness I’ve never had a better experience. Gold nibs are worth every penny and I prefer the full sized pens.

I have two vanishings in fine and medium and they are butter dreamy perfect! I’m a Sailor and Pilot fan and while I have some of the more inexpensive ones … that aren’t really the same! Also… don’t sleep on Leonardo, they are absolutely exceptional! Mine is absolutely amazing to write with!

Depending on your price point diplomat viper (it’s hooded) and it writes so beautifully! I have had some issues with my both my twsbi eco and diamond lately but I always tell people you gotta go for it and try for yourself! I would start on the affordable end and work your way up! 🖤

If you're into fine pens -- like truly fine nibs -- stick with Japanese brands. Sailor EF is gorgeously fine. Twsbis are great work horses, especially given how big their ink areas are, but their EF is really broad, still. I just got my own sailor and it's just.... so gorgeous of a writer and such a fine line. Platinum is also amazing for fine nibs, and Kakuno pens are good fine point nibs on a budget. I'm a very picky fine nib girlie. Also try Jinhao and Hongdian.

I’m new to fountain pens so I don’t know a lot. And I dont have any expensive pens so I can’t comment on those. But one pen I really like that I don’t ever hear anyone talking about is the pilot prera it is less then $40 on “the zon” — being a Japanese brand I think you will find it has a nice thin line. I hope you try it out I think you’d really like it!

I honestly think you don’t need to have really expensive pens, i love the dupes that i have found, my favs are the jinhao 10, jinhao 80, and the jinhao 82 i got them all in extra fine and one in a medium nib just to try and i love love them, i also have a few twsbi but i gravitate more to the jinhao 80 or 82

This is so exciting! I’m also a EF/F girly! If you’re looking for an affordable but great pen, I would get the TWSBI - and it has a great mechanism for refilling and holds a lot of ink! Another reliable one is the LAMY Safari (~$40) but you’ll have to get a converter. Otherwise if you’re looking for a good but expensive investment - I love my Pilot Vanishing Point!

Before you jump into a Vanishing Point, try a Majohn A1. $38 and the finest EF. I have multiple of both and The A1 stays in the daily rotation with the VPs.

Sailors are my favorite. The 1911L is my favorite but they do a like called shikiori that is more affordable and it’s still wonderful imo.

I have $15 pens that I love and one $600 pen that I love. Try some of the lower priced pens - TWSBI, LAMY, Monteverde, Sheaffer, - not going to lie, I do love a good JINHAO.

I just bough a Sailor 1911 but in a medium-fine steel nib and I love her. I would say she writes more fine than a twisbi fine and it’s so smooth. And the steel nib was half the cost of the gold and I love it just as much if not more than my pilot gold nib. $140 I think.

If you want to invest is a quality pen then go for a good gold nib pen. Pilot or Platinum are great smooth nib pens. Think quality over quantity.

fine writers international pocket pens are cheaper than the easterbrook and come with the same nib. I have the cherishment pen and hate the nib. you can find pilot gold nibs on amazon for less 💲
