Unfortunately the disc to digital program seems to be in preparation for a disc-less next gen Xbox console. Hopefully that’s not the case.

if they were smart Xbox would launch with a disc option for the next console. get good will. then phase it out by the end of the generation. they would still get their intended end, just 5-10 years later but also warm a ton of good will and convert a lot of players that live digital media.

Do you wanna know what’s absolutely crazy about that. Xbox and PlayStation created methods to track and lockdown individual discs. People who rely on the secondhand market rioted and rightfully so. PlayStation completely backed out of it, but Microsoft still has the keys to your physical copy. It’s crazy how time and perspective changes things.

If this is truly a soft launch to all digital Xbox, I feel like that would be shooting themselves in the foot. Asha is coming out and acknowledging how much we value physical media. Plus they would sell more consoles keeping physical. If they still do all digital then they would lose all the good will after basically pretending to care about physical media.

Yup I said the same thing , Microsoft is preparing for an all digital platform as well but they’re ripping the bandaid off slowly lol. It’s coming eventually.

Oh so not 360.. this whole time I was thinking about being able to put my Xbox 360 discs into the series action actually get a digital copy, but I guess I was wrong. Never mind that would be so helpful though wouldn’t it?

I remember when Xbox announced the disc ID. They were originally going to make it so you couldn’t let you friends borrow a game. Glad to see they are doing good use with it today. Curse phil spenny
