@toritriesit: My name is Victoria, and I’m asking for help with something I never imagined I would have to ask for. I’ve had 65 surgeries. 2x brain, 2x spinal cord surgery. 2x endometriosis. 2x pain pump. 2x thumb (in the past month which led to CRPS) I have recently been diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) in my hand following surgery. CRPS is a devastating neurological pain condition that can cause severe pain, swelling, skin color and temperature changes, sensitivity, and loss of function. For me, it has progressed incredibly quickly and has already begun affecting my entire arm and my ability to use my hand normally. It’s THE MOST painful surgery. I have tried the treatment currently available to me here in the United States. Unfortunately, after receiving the treatment, I am not experiencing the relief we had hoped for. And now I have one more option. Italy. 🇮🇹 I have been accepted by a clinic in Italy for treatment with IV neridronate, a medication that has specifically been studied for CRPS-I. Unlike many of the treatments I have been offered here, this treatment is aimed at the underlying disease process rather than simply trying to manage the pain and symptoms. The treatment consists of four IV infusions over approximately 9–10 days. Clinical research has shown significant and lasting improvements in people with acute CRPS-I after this treatment, and follow-up research has continued to show substantial long-term benefit. This could potentially be my chance to stop CRPS before it becomes a lifelong, disabling condition. The problem is that this treatment is not readily available to me in the United States. The only U.S. option I was able to pursue was a clinical research study, and unfortunately, I don’t qualify because of medication I currently take. So I’m left with the option of traveling overseas. And that’s where I need help. The flight alone is approximately $2,000 is the flight alone. The treatment is $3800. Then there are accommodations, food, transportation, medical expenses, and the costs associated with being away from home for the duration of treatment. I never thought I would be asking strangers on the internet to help me afford medical treatment. I’ve had 65 surgeries (total since 34 years ago when i was born!) and countless medical battles, and I’ve always somehow found a way to keep going. I’ve had brain surgery, spinal cord surgery (twice) thumb surgery (twice) pain pump surgery m(twice) endometriosis surgery; stint for pelvic congestion (twice) endoscopy (twice) and colonoscopy. All since starting TikTok shop in 2024. And i haven’t missed a day posting. I’ve learned how to fight, how to adapt, and how to keep moving forward even when my body doesn’t cooperate. But this time, I’m asking for help before I lose more function and before this becomes even harder to reverse. I’m a mom. I have children who need me. They also have chronic illnesses. And the thought of allowing this disease to progress when there may be a treatment that could put it into remission is terrifying. I’m not asking anyone to pay for my entire life. I’m asking for a chance. A chance to get on that plane. A chance to receive the treatment. A chance to get my hand and my life back. A chance to stop CRPS before it takes even more from me.
