@kaylatheshow: Aladdin is a big ball of stereotypes. I still love the movie anyway. But it’s disappointing. I’m not surprised to see that no one from any culture represented was present in the making but I was holding out hope. What do you think? #aladdin #disney #representation

Cutting off a hand for stealing in that time period is pretty accurate. You can’t complain about accuracy and then also complain when they get it right.

I know they are different "eras" but comparing the energy that went into the research for Aladin vs lilo and stitch is crazy

I like the live action of Aladdin way better than the animated, never knew why but the animated version just felt wrong

Oh, come on. It’s an American movie made for an American audience. Period. That’s part of why it’s so great. If you change it too much trying to appeal to everyone, people aren’t going to like it. Other countries can make their own version of Aladdin for their own audiences if they want. It’s doing the most important thing: just being great and funny.

the racism in aladdin is particularly awful because it is STILL prevalent TO THIS DAY people and companies still use the movie as a reference to represent swana cultures

People missing the point is so annoying. Yes you can like the movie still. OP likes the movie. It is genuinely disappointing that the movie couldn’t bother telling a cultural story with actual culture and Arab actors.

Something that pissed me off is one of the animators said he based Jasmine off an Indian actress because he didn’t know there was a difference between India and Arab countries. That seems insane for a grown adult to not know the difference.

Also can we talk about how the composer for Coco is not even Mexican or Latino, and how grotesquely Taínos are portrayed in Pirates of the Caribbean 😬 I’m still a Disney loving girlie! I’m just also a peeved Latina! 😅

In the parody musical of Aladdin called ‘twisted’ hey make a joke out of this and ask ‘why is everyone in the kingdom white?’ then blaming jafar for it

When Aladdin was made the United States had about 0.35 percent of their population identifying as Arabic in any way. So this is actually representative of the population that made it. Would you expect a Bollywood film about Snow White to have mostly Germans in it?

that's why the movie is not reflecting arab culture at all!
