@lynda.leads: HR is not there to protect you as an employee, they are there to protect the company. If you want to be taken seriously at work, you need to stop leading with feelings and start leading with liability. Here are four simple language swaps that turn your complaints into compliance triggers HR cannot ignore, plus the documentation strategy that creates a paper trail and forces accountability. #lyndasays #LearnOnTikTok

I’m sure HR would love if everyone showed up with notebooks and documented everything

How can you call out your HR for write ups suddenly happening now that FMLA is approved?

HR here: this is good advice. Personally, I would listen and follow up with the same approach regardless of the language used. Just because something doesn't trigger a compliance concern, it doesn't mean that it should be happening in the workplace. For those that say HR isn't listening to them, I'm sorry that has been your experience. Please check your handbook or policies to see if there's another way to report concerns. Many places have a hotline or portal to submit concerns, with the option to do so anonymously. These issues will likely either go to HR or the company's compliance function to investigate, but the platform can be audited (investigation timing, findings, actions) to ensure appropriate follow-up. If you engage with HR or another investigator, hopefully they share this up front, but confirm their policy on retaliation. Typically, there will be something in the handbook or policy about zero tolerance for retaliation for raising a concern in good faith or taking part in an investigation. Confirm what retaliation can look like and what you should do if you experience it. And yes, please document everything - I'd advise this to any employee. Screenshots, emails, etc. with times, dates, and content. Try to be as objective as possible in your documentation. Not every company's practice is to follow up with the reporter after an investigation has concluded, so ask what you can expect moving forward. Other HR pros may have different take on this, but hopefully this helps someone who is thinking about reporting a concern.
