@victoriaking048: Replying to @Ray94 Labor and Delivery 101 This is my personal opinion. Research will support elective 39 weeks elective induction to decrease c-sections, I just disagree. Please consult with your midwife or OBGYN to do what is best for you. #doula#ftm#induction#nurse#laboranddelivery

Paging Dr. Fran :
the evidence shows elective inductions at 39 weeks decrease the rate of c sections, that’s supported by several meta analysis at this point.

Did elective inductions on babies 2-4 and wouldn’t change that at all for my situation I preferred it

It was suggested for me to be induced, gestational diabetes. I went in on Friday, had baby on Sunday.. they woke me up Sunday morning saying I need a Csection... but with one last check, I was ready and able to push natural. so I was super close to a C Section.

As an L&D nurse, I’m not necessarily ~for~ elective inductions but I’m pretty sure this is misinformation based on the data for low risk elective inductions. Talk to your OB provider about the risks/benefits/alternatives for anything

Girl… as a fellow labor and deliver nurse I’m disappointed you put this on the internet. EIOL reduces risk for section in first time moms versus moms who go into labor spontaneously. Studies have shown this.

Take this with a grain of salt because I’m no professional but I have received prenatal care in America and Australia. Very different experiences and approaches to pregnancy and birth!! I’ve never met anyone in Australia who has had a 39 week elective induction just because they can. All inductions have been medically necessary. I do however have MANY Americans friends who have opted for 39week elective inductions just because they could. Many ended with a c sections for babies heart rate dropping. Idk it’s just something I’ve noticed 🤷‍♀️

Just had 4 friends the last month elective inductions at 39 weeks all ended in c sections. I’ve read the arrive trial… but my personal opinion I don’t love elective inductions usually either

I think there just needs to be more education surrounding what an induction entails. I’m an L&D nurse and opted for an elective induction as a prime and it went GREAT, and done in less than 24 hrs. I’ve seen multips with great success. Most primes though without education/prep have a hard time.

The point of something being “elective” is that people can choose to do it or not based on the available evidence and their own personal preferences. As a medical professional you should not be telling people NOT to do it (just as much as no one should be pressuring patients into having an elective induction).

I’d modify that to don’t get induced if you’re long thick and closed just because the OB suggested it. If you’re done done and 3/80/-2? I say go for it. There’s nuance to it for sure.

As a labor and delivery nurse, I’m planning a 39 week induction. Just depends on perspective.

I agree with you girl! You can believe the research while also taking your own experience into consideration. Everyone has to make the best decision for their own unique situation at the end of the day.

6 babies and 5 of those elective inductions and all have been vaginal birth. Not all inductions are terrible 😅
