As the parent of an adult child with OCD, this has been the absolute hardest thing to learn. Mom’s job is to make their kids feel better and not offering assurance goes so against what your brain says to do. But I’m working on this and think I’m making some progress. It’s so hard!

We named the OCD Gerald. So we say, “It sounds like Gerald is lying to you again. Make sure you listen to what people have actually said to you and not what Gerald is telling you.”

Do you think there is a way to say it just once? Like, the first time say “I’m confident you aren’t making people feel harassed. That is an ocd/anxiety thought.” But then all subsequent times “it sounds like those ocd thoughts are really a struggle right now”

My hubby not allowed to give me reassurance. We have been practicing this. I don’t know if it’s harder for me or him. 😁

When it comes to germs/cleanliness & he asks me i always says “maybe it is maybe it isn’t” and he HATES that but he knows I can’t answer. We make it funny a lot (when he isn’t deep deep in the trenches) and I love that we are able to do that! Thanks for sharing this content! I wish I had this for the first few years with my husband!!

Any tips for helping a partner w rocd? His ruminations are often about testing how he feels with me at any given moment or going back and forth on wanting to know if he’s “in love” enough or not or being like “i really didn’t like this one interaction we had, that probably means we shouldn’t be together.” It’s exhausting to be on the receiving end sometimes and it’s making me anxious to feel like his opinion towards me changes frequently

This is so helpful to know how we can support properly & not add to the situation. I’m looking forward to your course that you’ll be offering this fall. Thank you for all of your amazing information.🙏

With health ocd, (I know, I know but…) what if there really might be something wrong? Ugh. This is hands down the hardest.

My son has just right and moral OCD but he doesn’t seek reassurance. He takes his feelings out on others with anger, bullying, gaslighting and control. How do you respond to those things other than with repeated boundaries?

Thank you for this! So helpful, just one question, if our loved one is asking an ocd question and in your example, you say well let’s just go take a walk, isn’t that considered a compulsion? A compulsion to distract? Thank you so much.

What if just them saying that is enough reassurance? But I want to be validated
