These are the key connection points that allow containers to be secured to the ship and to each other. One of the most important components is the twist-lock, When a container is placed into position, the twist-lock engages with the corner casting. It then rotates and locks the container in place, creating a strong mechanical connection. But the system doesn't stop there. Containers can also be secured using lashing rods and turnbuckles, which help restrain the stacks and reduce movement caused by waves, wind and the ship's motion, Inside the cargo holds, many ships use cell guides — vertical steel structures that guide containers into position and help keep them aligned.
