I mean, that seems like a leap!- how do you know she's not talking about paying the full balance each month?

unless by bill she meant statement balance, which then would completely change the conversation

Going cashless has been bad for developing financial awareness. Kids need to handle cash before using credit cards because it physically let's them see trading money for products/services.

Pay the bill could have meant pay the statement balance. You may have interpreted this wrong

We do. The amount of people having kids and that have never even heard of a 529 is a prime example.

I heard that to be she pays off the balance every month. You are making a big stretch for this “hypothetical” scenario you witnessed

I always push back on this trend of “we need to teach children finance” because we already do, it’s called math. Financial literacy is just math and reading comprehension. That to me is a more well rounded approach to teaching children finance. Credit, loans, and taxes change and teaching them these things in 2026 will probably not apply in 2036. Banks find creative ways to change the rules. The credit cards of today will not be the same 20 years from now.

I like using rewards cards like a debit card. so I pay it in full every month, never spend over my budget. but chase canceled my card bc I was making too much money off of them. anywhere between $75-$100 cash back a month, they got mad at me. which that dipped my score for a good bit 🥲 thats their fault for having 7-10% cash back promos on stuff I bought regularly anyways 😂

I’m sorry, but credit cards are not hard. Spend the amount, don’t spend what you can’t pay back, then pay it off at the end of the month. WHY IS THAT HARD??

Most people don’t know what Net Income is, what depreciation and amortization means, what Equity is, what an Index Fund is but have convictions on what taxes should be or how companies should operate. It’s actually wild

The issue isn't financial literacy, the issue is a culture of instant gratification. You hear all the time people knew what they're doing isn't good but they wanted it now. People KNOW what they shouldn't be doing

Two things can be true at once. Inflation is at an all time high. You’re also assuming she’s not paying her entire debt - you assume she paid her minimum payment. And you’re assuming she’s not educated.

Google “ginancially”, “ginancially illiterate”. It’s used over and over again! And it’s not a play on words.
