Before this attempt I was getting very anxious. My heart was racing, my mind saying “what if you fail?..” (as if I haven’t before + I know how to do it safely). But I had to use box breathing (in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4) to calm my nervous system because it was starting to get out of hand (I think I placed too much importance on this lift). This lift was beltless, and I’ve actually failed it before, multiple times, with a belt. So yes, it was a risk. I knew I could fail again… and that’s okay. Fear never fully goes away, but you can learn to regulate it and move forward anyway. So many women avoid heavy lifting because of fear - of failing, looking silly, or “not being strong enough.” But courage isn’t being fearless. It’s breathing through the fear, showing up, and giving it your best shot.
