@michaeltothemax: You stopped calling. You stopped texting. You stopped checking in. Maybe you even went no contact. From the outside, it looks like you’ve moved on. But let me ask you something: Are you really moving on, or are you just waiting quietly? Because there’s a difference. You can go 30 days without sending somebody a text and still spend every one of those days hoping THEY send one to you. You can stop looking at their social media and still wonder what they’re doing. You can tell everybody, “I’m done,” while secretly hoping they wake up one morning and realize they made the biggest mistake of their life. That’s not unusual. In fact, I think a lot of people do it. You tell yourself, “I’m going to disappear. I’m going to work on myself. I’m going to show them what they lost.” But listen to what you just said. Show THEM. You’re still making them the audience for your life. You start going to the gym, and part of you wonders what they would think if they saw you. You start doing better financially, and you imagine them finding out. You post a picture where you look happy, and somewhere in the back of your mind you wonder if they’ll see it. You may not be chasing them anymore, but you’re still looking over your shoulder. And sometimes we even turn healing into a way of getting somebody back. “I’m going to become the best version of myself, and then they’ll regret leaving.” Okay, but what happens if they don’t? What happens if you lose the weight, get stronger, make more money, rebuild your confidence, start enjoying your life again…and they never say a word? Was all that growth still worth it? I hope the answer is yes. Because honestly, the goal of getting better shouldn’t primarily be to make somebody regret losing you. The goal is just actually getting better. There’s actually some psychology behind why this can be difficult. Our brains pay attention to rewards that are uncertain. When something MIGHT happen—a text might come, they might reach out, they might change their mind—it can keep us watching and waiting longer than we realize. Think about a slot machine. If you knew it was never going to pay out, you’d eventually stop pulling the handle. It’s the possibility of the next pull being different that keeps people sitting there. Relationships can sometimes work the same way. Maybe they’ll call. Maybe they’ll miss me. Maybe they’ll come back. Maybe they’ll finally realize. So you wait. Quietly. That’s why no contact by itself doesn’t always mean you’ve let somebody go. You can remove somebody from your phone and still give them a permanent address in your head. Real healing begins when what you’re doing is no longer about getting a reaction from them. You’re not getting healthy so they’ll notice. You’re getting healthy because YOU want to feel better. You’re not building a better life so they’ll regret leaving it. You’re building a better life because YOU still have one to live. You’re not becoming stronger so someday you can stand in front of them and prove something. You don’t need to prove anything to them. You’re doing it because you’re still in the land of the living, and you want to get every bit of life out of the life you’ve got left. . And listen…maybe they WILL come back someday. I’ve seen it happen many times. Maybe they WILL send that text. Maybe they WILL say that they made a mistake, and that you were the best thing that ever happened to them. That can happen. I’ve seen it happen more times than I can count…but that’s not the goal. Right HERE is where you want to get: Whether they come back or NOT no longer determines what happens next in your life. And listen… That’s freedom. So if you’ve been telling yourself you’ve moved on, ask yourself one uncomfortable question: If I knew for an absolute fact that they were NEVER coming back, would I still be doing what I’m doing right now? Would you still work on yourself? Would you still build the life? Would you still chase the goals? Would you still become stronger? #healing #nocontact

Been 5 and a half months of separation from my narcissist husband of 37 years of marriage, 42 years together total. I’m moving on and at the same time I feel stuck which I really am. I’m have been living alone in the marital home while the divorce process just started. Everything is being paid by him. House needs to be sold but have to wait until attorney says go ahead. I still am connected to him in that sense. I have no contact whatsoever with him about anything. I handle the house and pay all bills. His check still goes into joint account. Financially attached until divorce is settled. Horrible situation.

Yes, you’re right. I blocked them everywhere over a month ago. He’s been gone five months and yes, I hang onto the hope that he will notice he has not.

I am thinking about it, but I don't want to deal with what is ahead in the healing process. Too painful.

Each month that passes by I’d say I feel less connected to that past. I wouldn’t say moved on but it’s becoming easier to think about myself and less about her. Blocking her made it 💯 easier. All it took was one message or phone call to start the cycle over again.
