What is the actual relevance of the questions asked in the CSS examination to the practical responsibilities of the jobs for which candidates are selected? You select candidates through a highly competitive and rigorous examination, but once they are appointed, how do you evaluate their actual performance? What mechanisms are in place to assess whether these highly selected individuals are genuinely contributing to the betterment of Pakistan and its people? If the purpose of selecting these officers is to serve the country, then how do you evaluate their role in addressing issues such as economic inequality, poverty, and the growing gap between the rich and the poor? Furthermore, candidates are often asked questions such as, “What is such-and-such Constitution?” or “Explain a particular constitutional provision.” My question is: how does memorizing and answering such questions translate into their actual job performance and responsibilities after selection? Please explain how the CSS examination questions are connected with the practical duties of civil servants, and more importantly, how their performance is evaluated once they enter government service. If the examination is designed to select the best minds for public service, there should also be a clear and effective system to measure how effectively those selected officers actually serve Pakistan and its citizens.
