I am a senior developer and this is sadly cope. You are talking about AI assisted coding which is still a thing, it's just very rarely used now as the industry has moved on to full on agentic workflows with instructions and skill files embeded as core parts of the repository. They've moved onto them because it's so immediately obvious how much more efficient they are and how easily they maintain the project structure. I wish it wasn't true but I haven't written a single line of code in a year, I just guide the agent while it burns the client's money. The quality of code is much, much, much higher than what the average middle developer used to produce so our entire repository is much cleaner than before. And again: I hate all of it, but that doesn't matter, what I like or don't like doesn't alter reality.

Agents can write code 99% better than most engineers.

yeaaa, I used agent to write function to launch ffmpeg script on video and save result path (provided as input argument) into mapping. This fucker launched script and wrote 6 conditions where he wrote mappings. Like man, if script completes successfully create mapping, no need to do complicated stuff.

You need to add to the agent prompt “good code only, no bugs please”

Ai auto complete days were incredible, started writting and ai was ready your mind and auto completing, i would really love anthropic or open ai do this (copilot is the only one, i don’t know if auto completion can be plugged to other models, i think copilot is a specialised model to do auto completion fast enough

Idk what people are using with these “success” stories I see online, but at work, AI usage (which I’m not inherently against) has led to the most horrifying code repos I have ever seen. Lots of fast, bad code. Nobody has the ability to get through and review the massive PRs raised by devs blindly using agents driven by management saying no ticket should take more than a day anymore. They want everything unreasonably fast now. Had my own manager tell me to work on another team’s repo because “the agent will understand the repo anyway”, so I don’t need to know what’s going on in their repo myself

The reason the quality dropped is because they got ahead and got lazy, they created tiers for their intelligence with higher pricing , in the past you where just getting the best , but don’t worry, the models coming from china that you can run on your own pc has them in a bit of a panic :) like qwen3.8 and kimi k3

this is 100% true. I still get better results if I use chat for advice and sanity checks. Using agents gives fake confidence

If you just include TDD in your prompt, it does a lot better. You can add it literally anywhere besides in your code

i think the problem is the speed.. with copy paste it is must slower so you review, with agent it is too much

AI-Assisted coding not AI generated code or Agents is the best way to code, because at least you learn and understand your code and what it does not just blindly trust AI.

I like jetbrains' ai chat, where you can input your files for context and then type in the instructions for what you need. Then it'll give you what you asked inside the chat and you can either add it manually or automatically. It's nice.

im not a software engineer, nor a developer. I built 3 projects for the company using AI agents.
each took few hours, when something similar used to take 2-3 weeks when was requested directly from IT department 💀

When i use ai, it picks very weird names, doesn't follow the modern coding standards and naming, over-engineered code, im working with luau and the code quality is so bad, probably because there's less training data on it but the difference is significant when i switch to something like rust or typescript
