Former prosecutor. I agree with a lot of what you are saying, but I would have done a warrant for ALL the electronics in the house. Nest cam, other security cameras, pat’s phone and computer. I get his alibi checked early, but I would have wanted computers/ phones she had access to. I seize all the phones and let cellbrite tell me whose phone it is. And yes probably still would have seized the Apple Watch just in case it was not synched.

Patrick’s alibi… took him 55 min to do a half hour task and he was never more than ten min from the house. I’m not convinced he did it… but the fact that he wasn’t properly investigated means I’m not convinced she did it either

You said investigators can get distracted? Seriously? Amateurs can get distracted. Professionals — people who are expected to be competent, do their jobs professionally, and are literally paid for it — don’t get to use “I got distracted” as an excuse. People’s lives and freedom can depend on the outcome of their investigation. So saying they might have gotten distracted and that’s why they failed to do something during the investigation? That’s absurd.

Might be naive of me, but I’d hope for better than a mediocre investigation if I’m on trial where a jury of my peers is deciding my fate. It’s alarming that mediocrity when it comes to crime scene investigations is not shocking (or seemingly uncommon) to you as a former crime scene investigator and current forensic scientist.

Not in the Patrick did it camp… but if they are claiming she tried to overdose by crushing pills…would it not be important to collect the pill bottles and dust for fingerprints or something to make sure there aren’t other people prints? Or the Apple Watch, could they check to see if it had any other prints on it? They didn’t locate the item used to crush the pills in order to support their theory that she did it…also curious if there are foot prints in the blood or blood on her feet…. I trust your opinion but just wondering about those things :)

I don’t know. A “generally good” or “decent documentation” for a triple homicide of 3 children just doesn’t seem acceptable to me. I’m inclined to believe that the incomplete and seemingly lazy investigation has created reasonable doubt.

Call me crazy, but I feel the bar for a murder investigation should be higher than "decent" which I feel is already an exaggeration. They thought it was open and shut so they didn't do their due diligence.

I think the fact that they didn’t test the substance in the cup is an epic fail. I think it proves they are “using Patrick’s word” that she “crushed up pills”. How do they know what drugs she took? Did they find those drugs in the house? Was this something else in the cup? All of those questions raise even reasonable doubt that I could not convict her according to the law.
