Did you know you should routinely deep clean your sink faucet aerator? Most kitchen and bathroom faucets have them, a few older styles do not. They help control the flow and amount of water exiting the faucet and helps to filter debris. Routinely cleaning them helps to remove sediment, hard water scale, bacteria and pink mold. Most videos you’ll find show slipping a bag of vinegar over the faucet, securing with a rubber band. That doesn’t get the aerator clean. That only does a surface clean of the faucet. Some faucets come with a faucet aerator removal key to remove recessed aerators. More about that in another video. In this video, I show you how to remove the aerator from this style of faucet with a pair of Channellock pliers or crescent wrench like I used. Take note of how the aerator is placed in the faucet as you’re removing it. You want to ensure you reinstall it correctly. Soak the aerator and faucet housing for 30 minutes to an hour in a bowl of distilled vinegar. Use a soft-bristled brush to clean the housing and the aerator. Rinse with clean water and reinstall. That’s it. It’s now nice and clean. I suggest doing a deep clean twice a year.
