Many moons ago, Simply Nailogical went on a very long journey on YouTube about trying to water marble, I would highly recommend checking that out for tips and tricks.

I honestly think you have to use shitty drug store nail polish or thin it out with a little acetone

girl I think you gotta touch the tip of the nail polish brush to the water and that'll make it expand.

I don’t think water marble works with newer nail polishes. There must have been something in the formula years ago that caused them to expand in water like that.

Should try spreading that first color more, but agree that a shitty Polish might be watery enough to try marbling.

I used to do this a LOT. 1) You need those dollar/drug store $1 polishes. the cheaper the better, seriously not a suggestion, it's mandatory. good polishes will NOT work; it's the formulas. 2) dip the nail so as the nail touches the water, you roll the nail forward/down. there's some technique to that part, I always did a "rolling forward" kind of motion into the water but that was my preference. 3) Keep it submerged in the water until you push the rest of the polish away- only bring it up when you get it to a spot that is totally clear of polish or your design will get messed up by the leftover polish. 4) enjoy. you got this.

I hate how snippy and rude people get when giving advice on this app. if you're gonna say it with arrogance and condescension, then I don't wanna hear it at all.

Your nail polish is too high quality. Get the low grade, non quick drying. Room temp water.

I just went down a rabbit hole. Disclaimer: I’m a guy who doesn’t use nail polish. But… I did learn some things. It looks like folks are using a very “runny” nail polish which has more of the solvent in it that prevents it from drying quickly. I also noticed a lot of folks using significantly more drops of polish to help make it spread. What if you either added some solvent (e.g., acetone) to the water or thinned the polish with acetone before dropping it in the water? I think that would give you more working time and help make it spread.

You shouldn’t use hot water, use room temperature water and I used to use bottled water as regular water never worked. Also, you have to be quick as the polish will dry quickly and when you dip go all the way down then SLOWLY lift up and clean off the excess.
