Replying to @briceauger in simolist form the TXV opens and closes the valve to maintain a constant amount of superheated vapor at the end of the evaporator coil. How that works is a balance of 2 opening forces and 2 closing forces. P1+P4=P2+P3 Inside the TXV is a metering pin that moves up a small amount to make the hole slightly smaller, or down a small amount to make the hole slightly larger. 4 forces work together to control how the pin moves to and the size of the opening.  The spring pressure (P3) is a closing force always pushing the pin up and trying to decrease the size of the opening. you can increase the spring tension to increase the superheat. Decrease spring pressure to decrease superheat. This spring is called a superheat spring.  less spring pressure allows more liquid into the evaporator and a less superheated vapor. More spring pressure allows less liquid into the evaporator and more superheated vapor. The liquid pressure coming in is an opening force. (P4) as the head pressure increases it pushes the pin open and pushes more refrigerant past the opening. (P1) The power head has its own separate refrigerant circuit from the sensing bulb through the transmission tube to the diagram of the power head. As the temperature of the sensing bulb increases, so does the pressure inside, which is pushed against the diaphragm that pushes against the pin, against the spring, in an opening force.  as the temperature of the sensing bulb decreases the pressure decreased and the spring pressure overcomes and pushes the pin back so the opening is smaller. The suction pressure (P2) is a closing force that pushes back against the diaphragm under the power head. As the suction pressure or the suction pressure from the equalization tube increases, it pushes back against the power head. in a closing force. All of these forces work together in a balance of superheat. P1 is the sensing bulb and power head opening force P2 is the suction pressure or equalization tube suction pressure closing force P3 is the superheat spring closing force P4 in the liquid pressure opening force.
