@madeformotherhood_: The ADA stated definitively that the medications Lindsay said destabilized her were “out of her system” by January 24. But the jury is clearly still looking at the medication question. During deliberations, they asked to review the medication evidence, and the pill bottles were sent back for them to examine. We cannot assume what they are thinking, but medication is clearly part of what they are considering. Even if the body has cleared most of a medication from the bloodstream, that does not necessarily mean every effect of taking it, reacting to it, stopping it, or switching medications has ended. Reviews found that stopping psychiatric medications can sometimes cause withdrawal, returning or worsening symptoms, agitation, anxiety, and sleep disruption as drug levels fall. Bosch & colleagues found that estrogen may affect how the body processes medication, while Sundström’s research suggests that the brain may respond differently to medication across the menstrual cycle, even when the amount of medication in the body has not changed, only the cycle phase. Also, Lindsay began amitriptyline only eight days before January 24. Her doctor told her to increase the dose the day before, although it remains unclear whether she took that increased dose. How can we conclusively say either way whether these drugs had an effect on her state of mind or the actions of that day? I also do not think we fully understand how the hormonal changes of postpartum, weaning, and returning menstrual cycles may affect the way a woman processes and responds to medication, or what she experiences when stopping it. There is no definitive proof that medication caused Lindsay’s mental state or what happened to Cora, Dawson, and Callan. But “out of her system” answers only one narrow question about whether the drug itself was likely still circulating. I truly don’t believe there is enough information to say that there were no potential effects on that day. It is clear that we still do not know enough and our very limited in our understanding. Women deserve research capable of answering these questions. #maternalmentalhealth #postparummentalhealth #pme #pmdd #womenshealth

I have PMDD and have been on Citalopram for years....I have attempted to stop cold turkey because I was tired of taking medication because I wanted to feel my emotions without putting a bandaid on it. Bad idea... when it tappers off I cannot control my emotions, I cry non stop and my thoughts are all over the place. I cannot function off the medication. Proof that medication can absolutely distort the mind when coming off or changing prescriptions.

Could something like MTHFR mutation or collagen disorders affect this too?

Yes, I wish they had talked more about the cycle pharmacology. Someone can be pushed into psychosis through stimulant use or sleep deprivation. Or the wrong meds. It might clear their system, but it forever changes them.

When she said that, I also thought well then that makes it even more likely that she was becoming more unstable.

My psych and Obgyn needed to connect because Luvox and lamotrogine +estradiol caused my lamotrogine to lose effectiveness, making my pmdd WORSE! Had I not been following your page I would have never asked each of them to talk to EACH OTHER when working on my symptoms

Don't stop after the trial; you're the only person who researches and explains everything so well. I have PMDD myself, before it was even heard of. Doing so much research to treat myself, I recognize things you talk about. But you bring it to a whole new level. Thank you!

I take thyroid medicine; you can't eat or drink or take other meds. Because it decreases the effect. Wow Crazy stuff. #PMDD Warrior here!

Sounds like they are comparing them to her toxicology report, medical records, and maybe the journal entries where she indicated every med she took every day. Unfortunately, I doubt they will be considering hormonal impacts on medication effectiveness.

Postpartum, had to beg for iron testing. Was crashing out during luteal phase, did some digging and started a postnatal/ saffron/ iron and magnesium on my own and it’s made such a difference. Also looked more into the GABA and wow there is so much to learn and much more that can be done besides just medications 🤦🏻♀️
