Honestly, the only reason why you didn't take offense at his initial reaction is because you have an overwhelmingly beautiful mindset or probably a very good upbringing. A guy once told me in comment session that "is because you cannot afford it" a particular product that was advertised online and I feel the price is way out of value. And I responded, if you MUST buy everything you can AFFORD in life, you will remain poor for life. Some people don't know that wealth need serious protection against external forces heating your walls of protection really hard to take it away from you.
