📍 Riverside County, California, USA For more than 50 years, a woman found partially buried in the remote Riverside County desert was known only as an unidentified homicide victim. Now, investigators finally know her name. Rebecca Jean McMahan was just 19 years old when she disappeared in 1973. Her family reported her missing on July 3, but she had last been seen nearly a month earlier. On January 19, 1974, investigators discovered her body in the desert near Desert Hot Springs. Despite years of investigative efforts, including fingerprint and dental comparisons, authorities were unable to determine who she was. For decades, she remained a Jane Doe. Then detectives reopened the case and turned to advances in forensic science. Bone samples were sent to a forensic laboratory, where investigators were able to develop a DNA profile. Using genetic genealogy and ancestry databases, detectives eventually identified potential relatives who could help solve the mystery. A family member later provided DNA for comparison, confirming that the unidentified victim was Rebecca McMahan, also known as Becky McMahan and Becky Solis. After more than five decades, a woman who had been known only as an unidentified homicide victim finally had her identity restored. But identifying Rebecca is only part of the story. The biggest question still remains: Who killed Rebecca McMahan, and why? #ColdCase #TrueCrime #CrimeNews #RiversideCounty
