As soon as the government rolled out the mandatory employer pension contribution match law the writing was on the wall for means testing state pensions. I am 35 now, I have fully accepted I likely will never receive a state pension despite paying into the tax system for my whole adult life. Boomers right now are so pressed by what we’re saying because they hate admitting they have had it easier than everyone else.

There’s no guarantee that it will be around in 35 years. It almost guaranteed to be significantly different in 35yrs. Employee pensions are the way forward for everyone and possibly low benefits for non workers.

My grandmother in my opinion should not be receiving her state pension. She’s well off, and gets a massive private pension each month, so much that she can build up thousands in a matter of 6 months. She does not need the state pension and in my opinion she should be means tested and receive £0.

I’m a believer the state pension should be means tested. Every benefit should annually. Right down to social housing

it's so interesting that these benefits and increases like triple lock are sold to is as just being nice and us all looking after each other. but if you just challenge it slightly is all "well I'm alright, I've got mine, I worked so I want my payout, I don't care about the consequences, I don't care about the younger generations, me me me."

There’s also the scenario where the state pension exists but becomes exert more theoretical as the government continually raise the age at which you can claim it. Pay in til you’re 95 and then you can get your triple locked pension.

Its clear I wont be getting a state pension, has been since I started working. Thats why the government forces every one to have a private pension

Exactly, I only have to pay in for another 10 years to hit my max as forecast but I can't stop paying in. It says it's not a guarantee so thankfully I have a decent private pension, but who knows what the state of the country will be in 2054

The problem is lots of people rely on the state pension to live having not saved or invested for their retirement, if we tax the people who have, it sends a message it’s not worth saving or investing as the government will just take it off you.

The problem isn’t the triple lock it’s corporations that make massive profits paying little or no tax. For example Apple, Amazon, Starbucks, Microsoft, BP and many others all use tricky accounting to avoid taxes! 😏😏😏

Thatcherism has been wringing every social program dry for forty years and it will absolutely come for the state pension if we can't get governments that prioritise people over profits
