My 9th and 11th grade English teacher was from Bosnia. She was a translator for the UN and US military forces. Ended up marrying a soldier from NC. She told us how terrible the war was, how many family and friends she lost, and how the damage is still so visible.

my mom was deployed to bosnia during this time and she’s only talked about the atrocities she’s seen once. apparently they had fields of piles of bodies waiting to be thrown in holes, burnt, and buried

one of my mom coworkers when i was a kid was a refugee from bosnia. she was the sweetest little old lady i’ve ever met when i learned about why she had to come to america i was floored that she was still able to be so sweet and welcoming
