@youtogo_official: 🇳🇱🚜 Dutch modern farming keeps making me think differently about African agriculture. Here in the Netherlands, this powerful farm machinery is being used to move and spread pig manure across farmland. The job sounds simple — move manure from the farm and distribute it across the fields — but look at the equipment required to do it efficiently. Machinery like this can cost tens of thousands of euros, and some setups can reach around €100,000 or more. So I asked myself: how many small-scale African farmers could realistically afford to own machines like this? Probably very few. But maybe every farmer doesn’t need to own one. Imagine one agribusiness owning specialized farm machinery and providing services to many farmers who simply pay when they need it. One machine could serve dozens or even hundreds of farms. That may be one of the biggest lessons I am learning from Dutch agriculture and European farming: Agricultural development is not only about producing more food. Sometimes the real opportunity is building the services and infrastructure that farmers cannot afford individually. Maybe Africa doesn’t need every farmer to own expensive machinery.
