@grandmasterhogan: The Knights Templar did not begin in 1119 as conventional histories claim. According to our Templar tradition, the order was secretly founded as early as 1096 by French families rooted in Gnostic Christianity, particularly the Albigensian tradition of Southern France, also known as the Cathars. These families called themselves the Poor of Christ, which is why the Templars later adopted the name Poor Knights of Christ. The Cathars held that anyone, through their own efforts, could attain gnosis, a direct revelatory knowledge of the divine, without the mediation of priests. This was the mission Jesus came to fulfill, to guide people toward enlightenment. Within the Templar order, we recognize that this enlightened state had to be reached before death, or the soul would reincarnate and continue the cycle until gnosis was achieved.
