If it’s so easy… then do it. Like all of it. And yet, they don’t. 🙃 (they = the commenters saying it’s so easy…)

It’s knowing how long each load will take, when the load will be done so you can leave the house without the wet load sitting in the machine for too long, knowing how full each hamper is, when the sheets were last changed, how many stains are on the kids clothes since I’ll need 10 minutes to locate all the stains, spray them, then let them sit before actually running the machine. If do three loads today, will I have enough time to fold all of them, or will I have piles growing on the floor for days which is stressful to look at? The list goes on and on. There’s so much that goes into it.

The washing I find pretty doable. I really hate the folding and sorting, though.

Don't forget you also have to periodically clean the washing machine if you don't want your next load to smell funky.

I buy the clothes, so I am the only one that knows the fabric composition of all the clothes. We cut the tags off for comfort.

we have now laundry baskets one for each load how we sort them, one basket full is one load of washing (I just do light and dark) and a household of 3 (soon 4) and I wash as soon as a basket is full, once it's dry every family member gets their own laundry basket full of clean stuff so I tidy mine, my husband his and either of us our kids and it actually works quite nicely because I'm not responsible for his stuff anymore 😅

my husband declared at the beginning that he will take over laundry since I hate it. Mind you he never did it before, his mum did laundry for him. He ruined several expensive sweaters of his, constantly runs out of clean underwears 😂 I encourage ladies to let your husband truly take over some tasks. I know it might be annoying because he does it differently but your patience will pay off. My husband now knows and appreciates household chores much better than when we first met

Dont forget ironing - especially HIS shirts for the office. i hate laundry. i only do my stuff. he does his himself. he is not a baby. i really don't understand why someone else is supposed to wash your dirty underwear for free. also pressing buttons doesnt sort the laundry before and after, doesnt dry it, doesnt fold it, doesnt put it in your wardrobe.

Eh, the washing part can be pretty simple - we have a 4 hamper sort system and air dry are supposed to go in mesh bags to differentiate. I only buy machine washable, so it really is just swap and press a button. The labour isn’t in the washing - it’s in the folding and knowing whose is whose… you won’t get any points from me by saying you washed everything in my house… 😂

Thank you for this! It reminds me that there really is more to this job (that I do every day) than I often give myself credit for!

- collecting laundry from all over the house
- sometimes even reminding kids to change so you can wash the clothes they're wearing right now
- checking pockets are empty
- turning items inside out or putting them in mesh bags, closing zippers, hooking bras
-pre treating stains or soaking sth over night
- sorting
- checking no items were left behind during the last wash
- load machine
- knowing which settings (temperature, time, spin etc.) to use, which detergent and how much
-pressing the button to start the machine
- getting it out of the machine asap so it won't start stinking
- checking nothing gets left in the machine
- sorting what can go in the tumble dryer and what has to line dry
- put in tumble dryer and hang on the line
- take out of dryer/ from line and fold
- sorting socks
- put back in wardrobe
- declutter damaged items and sizes that don't fit
- discard of decluttered items
- change wardrobes according to seasons
additionally:
- clean washing machine once a month
- empty lint trap/ water

It's literally 5 minutes of work, you can ignore all of the settings and put black, white and any color in between together, it does not matter. And all the additional details you put in there are not relevant either, putting the clothes outside is optional, knowing when you need something is not stressful.
