Trade war aside how come Canada has historically imposed tariffs significantly higher than 1% U.S. imports, sometimes as high as 25%, while the U.S. has often charged Canada much lower average tariffs at 0.08%?
Now this administration wants to bring the rates more in line. I agree that excessively high tariffs are a bad move, and I’m not a fan of this administration’s tactics.
BUT STILL!! WHY DOES CANADA WANT TO CONTINUE TAXING U.S. GOODS AT HIGHER RATES?
Maybe the uncomfortable question is: Are American consumers effectively helping subsidize Canada’s social programs through trade?
Let’s have an honest conversation about reciprocal trade instead of pretending the imbalance doesn’t exist.
