It felt ridiculous. But chronic pain alters how the brain perceives body ownership and danger. Describing the sensation aloud with neutral language—"It feels warm and tight, but it is safe"—helps uncouple the fear response from the sensory signal, reducing the neural threat signal driving the pain. 5. "Lie on the floor under a heavy blanket in pitch darkness for 10 minutes." Sounds absurdly basic, right? But eliminating visual and sensory input while applying deep tactile pressure (proprioceptive input) reduces the brain's sensory processing load. When your nervous system is overloaded by chronic pain, shutting down external stimuli gives your central nervous system a chance to reset. What do you think?
