@mumof4indebt: Day 245 of clearing my debt. So fuming with myself for ending up with a €150 fine from the French train service 🫠 #debtfreecommunity #debtfreedom #debt #micropayments #paris

Bless you that’s awful that you had the tickets but didn’t know to validate them and I would certainly go back to them and say I understand if I didn’t buy the tickets but I did and wasn’t aware they needed to be validated before getting on the train. I’m sure this has happened to so many other people

I went to Paris a couple years ago, are you talking about an actual train or the metro train? We had problems, but the opposite our tickets wouldn’t ever work and we would constantly be back at the office getting new ones, until the day we left we went back to get the metro to the train station and we were told they have a magnetic strip in the back and if put near any phone ect it would deactivate it. Every single time we went back we had to pay 5 euro for a new one when if they just told us that it was because we were keeping our tickets in our phone we would of stopped doing it and save money 😭

If you need food on a budget, install the app TooGoodToGo. It's an app where businesses can sell their stuff, mostly food, that's still good for 1 or 2 days, at a huge discount, to prevent waste. Especially the Flunch in France has AMAZING TooGoodToGo deals. Feels like a 3 course takeout food, but for 4 euros a person. Huge recommend.

Same thing happened to my brother and his family, €250 for them and that was Germany. So unfair! Try not to let it ruin the last couple of days x

Why did you pay the fine on the spot? You wouldn’t do that in the UK, so why would you do it in France? What were they actually going to do, lock you up? 😂 Especially when you already had valid tickets, you just forgot to validate them or didn’t realise you needed to. I would’ve just said, “I don’t have any money on me. Here are my details.” Then let them chase me for the money. I’d have taken my chances.

Crazy to think if we could get your daily payments to £54.28 per day… the goal would be smashed and you’d be debt free by day 365! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Contact your credit or debit card company and ask for a refund. You’ll probably get it

I’m so sorry! It was the same when I was in Nice and we knew about it but saw lots of tourists caught out. Proper shady tourist tax.

I lived in France for 2.5 years and there was still an occasion when I had to jump off a tram as I spotted ticket enforcement people. I had a ticket in my wallet which covered the whole month, with the name of the month on it. However, it was 1st month and is forgotten to "composter" it, so it wouldn't be been valid.
I'm so sorry that your got caught out for such a huge amount 😔

Let’s get you there for that goal. I’ve never been to France. Haven’t had a holiday in 7 years. Maybe next year. Shame about the tickets it’s a system designed to rip you off xx enjoy the rest of your holiday xx

We had a similar thing on Copenhagen. Thought we bought three train tickets instead we bought 1 ticket for zone 3!! Inspector took our addresses and they tried finding us once we were back un the UK.

I'm so sorry that happened! it's so infuriating and you just constantly replay how you could have not done it! we've all done it, take the time you need to be cross with yourself and when you feel ready, say to yourself what you would say to a friend x

There’s an app called IDFMobilities and another called Bonjour RATP, they are the easiest and fastest way to buy and validate tickets. I highly recommend for your next tickets. Enter your journey into the Bonjour RATP app and it will give you the option to buy the specific ticket for that specific line.
