@rickythesteadyinvestor: Beating the S&P 500, Episode 5. Everyone wants the number one company in America. So I ran 25 years of buying only the number two instead — and compared both to just owning the index. Assumptions on screen. Full breakdown in the video. #investing #sp500 #PersonalFinance

Nice experiment. It's been all big tech since 2015, that may be a reason for the results. Also, I wonder if you invested $1000 each year in top 3 companies, so each get $333 investment each year, what kind of outcome that would have gotten for us.

Take the tenth biggest, already strong but with a lot more upside. I curious about the outcome.

I would love to hear the results of all these experiments if dividents are not reinvested.

So both #1 and #2 beat the SP500. How’d the top 10 do? Run a big analysis!

You look At returns, now look At risk. On a risk adjusted basis probably sp 500 did better. Don’t forget you are investing in 1 company vs 500 companies.

It would be interesting with an option where you sell that stock if it is no longer top 5 and use that money to buy the second largest company. Abandoning sinking ships and more invested in the ones with momentum.

Do you sell last years number 2 and invest all in the new number 2 or hold each and every number 2 since inception?

Now I want to run some different experiments like this. I do wonder if within a certain range such say top 5 or ten is there value in buying the bottom with the assumption that some of those companies will typically move up within that range rather than number one just get bigger. But again that doesn’t mean number one won’t still outperform
