400 is the displacement it’s about the same physical size as a 350 but it goes from a 4 inch bore to a 4.125 inch bore, it also has a different stroke, the 350 uses a 3.48 and the 400 uses a 3.75, if you ever build a 383 it’s a 400 crank in a 350 block, and a 377 is a 400 block with a 350 crank, to build either you have to go .30 over, right now I have a 350 in my truck but I’m building a 388 which is a 350 with a 4.060 bore and 3.75 stroke crankshaft

400 is the displacement! It’s how far the travel is for the pistons on the stroke X how many cylinders there are.
