@healingbythenumbers_: I recorded this earlier in the week but chickened out of posting it because it wasn’t about abuse and I felt too squishy. Now I’m having another lavender tea day so here we are 🤷♀️
for me, i've been noticing that a good way i've helped myself cope is to go "well i'd rather be depressed with a good cup of tea than without it" and so it kind of takes the pressure off for the tea to "fix" anything

Happens to me all the time with my depression. Getting a chocolate bar or going for a nature walk, I do it, and still feel like shit. Now I've wasted the money or my time(some of these walks are 90+min), and feel like shit. I've telling myself if I didn't try then I'd feel even worse. Fighting depression isn't about feeling good, it's about not feeling worse. Keep trying to stop the decent and sparks of joy will appear.

You’ve worded this perfectly. I hate having fun when I’m depressed and it’s getting worse and worse these days. I’m trying to shut off the spiralling too.

I used to avoid my favourite things during really bad times so that I wouldn’t end up associating them with those feelings.

for me it's food, and it's both costs. I have issues with food, but I also use it to regulate. The idea that I'll buy something I want to eat too regulate myself and it won't work feels like a huge cost both emotionally and financially. I can never seem to break the poverty mindset.

the way so much thought is put into the smallest of things bc of the past trauma - you deserve the perfect lavender fields honey tea with no second thoughts

I have to remind myself that just because things are bad doesn't mean I'm not deserving of comfort. Is a new blanket going to make my life better? No. but I still deserve soft things.

This is the true death spiral of depression- you try..and it doesn't so you stop and then your stuck.. it's a hard hole to climb out of

Proud of you for stopping thinking and getting what you wanted even though it wasn’t the best you did a bigger thing by stopping the bad thoughts and rewriting your brain to choosing you. The tea isn’t the issue it’s the frame of mind when you were triggered. Good for you! I’ve been practicing this it gets easier. Your videos have also helped me with it.

And I feel like I’ve wasted money trying to make myself feel better and it wasn’t worth it and that angry person down in my brain reminds me I’m not worth it

Oh. Yeah, that's absolutely it. I usually just say I dont have the mental energy to risk it right now, but this was a great explanation and I'm going to send it to my humans.

That’s also something that happens when subconsciously an ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘I’m unworthy’ wound still exists. Consciously you want to feel good, do or try or have something, but those things are outside your subconscious comfort zone and our brains want us to stay in our comfort zones because no matter how hard the past was we survived 100% of it and this new stuff is unknown, we might not survive it. We can rewire those old wounds, and we should. What happened to us was an injustice caused by others but not allowing those things to play on repeat inside us is a choice (and hard work) only we can make and if we don’t that injustice falls on us.

this articulates the struggle im having with my physical health. I know i need to lose weight because my body is struggling. but im not trying like I should be. because what if I try and its not enough and I dont get fitter and healthier and lose weight? what then?

I don't know if you've ever read "How to escape the well" by Derin Edala, but I feel like it captures the idea of not doing things because if you avoid them you can't be disappointed if they don't work.

THIS. I've been feeling this way for months/years but every single "tea" I get ISN'T working and I can't keep being optimistic 😭😭 Every time it's like I accidentally drink poison and everything just gets even worse than it was before. I'm sick and tired of trying tea and drinking poison! Everything is poison right now 😭😭
