My issue with it is that subsequent partners are, more often than not, going to feel uncomfortable about the friendship with an ex. And I wouldn’t want to make a future partner uncomfortable with it. So the friendship with the ex thing just feels inevitably temporary. And there’s an anticipatory grief that looms over it.

it's so strange that so many people think breaking up with someone means you now have to REALLY HATE them

It's perfectly healthy to end a relationship and not want any kind of friendship with that person. it's also a very mature thing as long as you set that boundary kindly and move on.

It is totally possible to be friends with an ex. It is totally possible to be friends with your exes’ new partners. It is totally possible to change a “friend zone” situation into a deep & satisfying friendship. It is totally possible to be deeply in love with someone & realize that a relationship wouldn’t work because neither of you could meet each other’s emotional & relationship needs & act accordingly. Not every ex is going to want to remain friends, & that’s okay, too. Idk, guys, it just seems a little weird to not be able to separate one’s feelings for a person from the person (someone who has their own feelings, goals, & needs that have nothing to do with the other person’s feelings). “Weird” probably isn’t the right word—solipsistic is probably more accurate. Because if all you think about when you think about the other person is your feelings, well, that really isn’t about the other person.

The person who has trouble with this concept may have some deep wounds around not being chosen/being abandoned. Once they receive the message their feelings are giving them they can address that hidden fear and move forward in a more healthy way.

I never really understood why romantic partners can't remain friends. I mean these people that you shared your life with, on various intimate levels, they know you and you know them. Your videos are informative.

1. I was simply expressing a point of view and not my specific view on the topic. 2. because it is already hard to get into a relationship as it is, why would I want to have to go back out there again? I have zero relationship experience but I've asked out multiple different girl and got rejected every time. it's just too difficult to do it again. if I actually end up in a relationship, I do not want to break up because I know I won't be able to find another person.
