@meggrowsplants: 🌻 SAVE THIS — how to dye tea towels with flowers from your garden: 1️⃣ Mordant your cotton — simmer it in an alum bath (about 15% of your fabric's weight in alum) for 45–60 min, then air dry. This is what makes the dye actually bond instead of washing out. 2️⃣ Extract your dye — crush black sunflower seeds (it's the seed hulls, not the petals, that hold the pigment) and simmer about 45–60 min for grey/lavender. Let sit overnight. For orange, simmer a blend of cosmos, marigold, and Mexican sunflower blooms 20–30 min, then let it steep. Do not let sit overnight. 3️⃣ Strain both baths, then submerge your mordanted towels and simmer 30–45 min, stirring occasionally so the color builds evenly. 4️⃣ Rinse in cool water until it runs clear, then a gentle soap wash. 5️⃣ Hang dry out of direct sun — skip the dryer, it can cause uneven color. Zero synthetic dye, all from what's growing right outside my door 🌱 Full walkthrough with exact measurements, water ratios, and timing is up on my YT channel #naturaldye #gardeninspiration #dyegarden #backyardgarden #gardeningtips
