2009 Toyota Matrix S | 173k Miles | Does It Have Oil?! I installed a used fuel pump in the car last year. Yep, a used one. Why in the world would I do that? Somebody was chasing a P0171 code on the car, and had replaced the fuel pump. However, they broke the pump module/housing while installing a new pump which I didn’t know until I got in there myself. It was originally towed in as a crank no start with no fuel pressure. So I got a used assembly from the wrecking yard, explained there was no warranty on the parts, and the customer opted to not replace the electric pump while we had it all apart. It worked out just fine! Well she called the other day and said the fuel pump went out, wanting to get it warrantied. The car was intermittently stalling at stop lights, but would restart. Turns out before breaking the fuel pump, said person also installed a cheap aftermarket MAF trying to fix their P0171 lean code, which was now causing very excessive fuel trims and intermittent stalling. This is exactly why I don’t like to collaborate with other shops/“mechanics” and sometimes I just politely bow out of taking on a car if someone else already tried. It turns into a mess of he said, she said, etc…. Everything is fine!! We proved the diag and the customer opted to take the car and replace the MAF themselves. #lubetech #doesithaveoil #oilfilter #engineoil #toyota
