If our women rejoice, if our children rejoice, if the young men sing, if the elders rejoice... it is well! In Vilnius, a full choir carries a single request: rain. It isn't a figure of speech. It's a litany, one line that calls and an answer that never fails. The prayer is called Waloyo Yamoni and exists in a language called Lango, spoken in northern Uganda. It names who needs the rain: women, children, young men, elders, one by one, and for each one the answer is always the same: it is well. Christopher Tin set this litany for orchestra and choir; it closes the album The Drop That Contained the Sea, where every track is sung in a different language. This time, the one who opens that request, alone, before the choir comes in, is Jamal Moore, trained in Opera at the Eastman School of Music, and the same voice behind the vocals on Beyoncé's "Break My Soul." And the one conducting the orchestra and choir live, in Vilnius, on December 9, 2024, isn't a conductor hired for the occasion: it's Christopher Tin himself, the piece's composer, on the podium. A prayer written to ask for rain in a field ends up conducted by the hand that wrote it, inside a concert hall. The request stays the same. Who raises it has changed. Which voice stopped you more: the full choir, or Jamal Moore's solo opening the request alone? 🎼 Waloyo Yamoni ✍️ Christopher Tin 🇺🇸 🎤 Jamal Moore 🇺🇸 (solo) · Bel Canto Choir Vilnius 🇱🇹 · A Scalpella 🇸🇪 🎥 Live, Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall, Vilnius, "Open to the World '24," December 9, 2024 Follow for more stories that music holds onto. #BestOfOpera #WaloyoYamoni #ChristopherTin #ClassicalMusic

Stop comparing Experience (plus Talent) and Talent. He is good and he'll be even better with time. Also, voices are not the same.
