The Prophet ๏ทบ did not treat teaching as an opportunity merely to win theological arguments. Allah says: โInvite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction.โ (Qurโan 16:125) The Prophet ๏ทบ also said: โMake things easy and do not make things difficult; give glad tidings and do not repel people.โ (Bukhari, Muslim) The Friday khutbah should teach people what they need: how to pray and make wudu correctly, understand Salah, fast, calculate Zakat, honour their parents, fulfil family rights, avoid Riba, control their tongues and improve their character. If something is wrong, explain it with knowledge, wisdom and respect. But the pulpit should not become a platform for constantly criticizing, attacking or condemning other Muslims. Imagine if every khutbah left hundreds of people with one practical lesson they could immediately apply. There is a place for scholarly disagreement. There is also a responsibility to teach. The question should not only be: โDid I prove that I am right?โ It should be: โDid I help these people become better Muslims?โ We have enough arguments. Teach people. Guide people. Bring them closer to Allah.
