As someone who has been in sales for close to 10 years, commission is fun when you have a good year. When you inevitably have a bad year it can screw you. Having a base salary + uncapped commission is more safe for a man or woman with a family

I was commission for four years and had great years, but my company sucked at showing appreciation for those who made commission. They paid us commission based off of sales and revenue so I would have 100 K in sales and about 65K in revenue and would work about 65 hours a week, but I would have a lazy guy who would do about 20 K sales and 140 K in revenue because he was doing all the other salesman sold work but he’d only work about 35 hrs a week and our commission was so close to eachother where I’d do the math and would only make $900 more than him in a month
