@bloombergbusiness: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's bond buyback policy is not "going to work," says David Bianco of DWS. He tells Wall Street Week long-term Treasury yields and real rates have climbed to some of their highest levels in nearly 25 years, but argues inflation is not the main driver. #US #economy #money #debt #Politics

not get the deficit down. no, we need to aim for a surplus. we CANNOT afford this level of debt to continue to go up and up and up. having a national debt is fine. having one that's 125% of the GDP is concerning, and the deficit having been 5.8% of GDP puts it at close to double the average level of 3.8% of GDP in the previous 50 years. much more concerning is that interest accrued on it in 2025 alone was $970 billion. the government only SPENT a total of $7 trillion last year. that means interest payments cost 14% OF THE ENTIRE FEDERAL BUDGET. In the last ten years the debt went up $20 trillion. it doubled. and the federal budget in that time went from $4 trillion to $7 trillion- so debt growth outpaced budget growth, by 14%. it's still at a level where it doesn't seem at first glance that it's that big of a problem unless you stop and think about what that means. it means that while the US economy is approaching a massive implosion in the AI sector, the government is getting so deeply in debt that the levels of money it has to print and borrow have caused horrendous inflation, at the same time wages remain stagnant. much faster than it's supposed to, that means we're hitting a breaking point, and possibly the point of no return, because it means we've passed the point at which the government's efforts to improve the economy are able to keep up with the compoun interest the debt accrues. yet even worse somehow is that the deficit more that tripled, going from $585 billion in 2016 to $1.8 trillion- increase of 307%. so even worse than that our budget is starting to grow more slowly than our debt, the amount of new debt is outpacing even that. in other words, it's not just that debt is increasing. it's that we're getting to a point where if we don't DECREASE the debt by a significant amount, and soon, we'll enter a death-spiral and the government will go so bankrupt that the military will have to sell the aircraft carriers to China to pay it off.

Aren’t they just marking room for the corporate bonds to sell and be issued so the AI book continues a few more months?

He's really there, Secretary, it's Rick Scott. he's both a market genius, healthcare CEO, and offshoring expert Treasury Secretary to real power brokers in New Delhi.

and incredibly, while income tax, which the healthiest people simply completely avoid, makes up 51% of tax revenue, corporate taxes make up under 10%. and meanwhile the wealthiest people are moving their increasing share of American wealth overseas, where we can't get it back from. we could, theoretically; but we won't, since billionaires appear to lack any sense of actual duty to their country and the people that live here, so they'll bribe anyone who gets in their way to death because it's cheaper than paying taxes. that calculation- that it's better to pay the politicians to eliminate your taxes than to pay the taxes because it's cheaper, is one of the most damaging things that the ultra wealthy have ever convinced the rest of the business world of.

Bessent used to be Soros right hand man. He only stopped being a Democrat to join this administration. He’s done some shady shit for Soros, which explains why Trump wanted him. He mad over $3B in a day for Soros in the 90’s on the Yen. Any time Bessent fucks with monetary policy, it’s smoke and mirrors.
