Samples taken directly from the farms tested positive for Salmonella Enteritidis — the same strain that has now sickened 98 people across 17 states and hospitalised 26. The eggs were sold as cage-free under Kroger, Simple Truth, Brookshire's, Country Morning, and Sunups across six states. Premium labels. Premium prices. Salmonella inside. This isn't isolated. In 2025, August Egg Company recalled over 20 million eggs for the exact same reason — Salmonella — sickening 79 people and hospitalising 21 across seven states. That batch was also cage-free and sold under trusted brands at Walmart, Safeway, and Raley's. Two massive recalls in back-to-back years. Both cage-free. Both Class I. Both tens of millions of eggs. Both discovered after people were already hospitalised. The system didn't prevent the contamination. It didn't catch it before distribution. It caught it after nearly 100 people got sick. 19 million eggs reached store shelves, restaurant kitchens, and family fridges before anyone tested the farm. That's not food safety.
