I feel deeply for these people who need these resources, but at the same time my heart aches for the hard working people in the community affected by the theft and violence occurring. I grew up on Temperance Street and we never locked our doors. Now my senior mother wakes multiple times in the night to make sure shes locked everything. Her car has already been broken into and she fears for the house and her safety. It’s no way for people who have worked in the community their whole life to live.

Every single politician and NGO repeats the same useless diatribe : “all organizations need to come together and get out of our comfort zone and find solutions”. “It’s complex problem that requires a multi- pronged solution. “Let’s think out of the box!” Quite literally nothing gets proposed or changes.

the lack of empathy people have for the unhoused disgusts me. you want the shelter to close and then what? the mayor said basically a whole bunch of nothing. you want something to change but come forward with no realistic solutions? all you’re doing is showing that you don’t think of the unhoused as people.

every level of government is failing to ensure people have their basic needs met, studies show substance use is reduced when people have support to maintain housing and have enough to eat, but currently politicians on every level are committing social murder
