fun fact: on US airways 1539 that went into the Hudson it was Sullenberger's quick thinking to turn the APU on that gave him flight controls as he glided down into the Hudson. That was not something that was on the checklist but he knew with both engines out he needed some sort of power for flight controls and instruments. This is reference quite clearly in the movie.

I once saw a plane with 3 condensation trails but it was a 2 engine plane so I think the apu was let on mid air
